Deadline to Apply: 24th Feb, 23.59
We are looking for volunteers to join our Archiving and Digitising Working Group for a one-year project centred around eco-activism and the history of environmental resistance.
This will be a monthly session where people can get involved in digitising and making one of our largest collections available to the broader public. Throughout the project, you will learn basic skills of cataloguing and turning evidence of the rich history of British environmental struggles into pixels using cameras, copiers, flat-bed and overhead scanners, and your phones! Throughout the year, we will be working together on the collections representing the different strands of the ecological movement, including movements such as the campaign against the Criminal Justice Act, Earth First!, Reclaim The Streets, the anti-roads struggle, the beginnings of the anti-globalisation movement, animal liberation actions and more!
So if you’re interested in developing new archiving and digitising skills, exploring the MDR archive, and learning about histories of ecological struggle, please come and get involved!
Partial subsistence and travel to regular volunteers will be covered by the grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund in the framework of the “Global Ecology not Global Economy” project.
Spaces in the group are limited, and there will be a selection process. To apply, fill in the form on our bio. Selection will be made based on enthusiasm for the project and to learn about the archival and digitisation practices, rather than prior experience, as training will be provided for selected applicants.
We will also prioritise applicants who are available to commit to a once-monthly meetup on Saturday afternoons for 12 months, beginning in March 2026.
We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds, particularly those underrepresented in archiving and heritage.
