Undivided Line

MDR Event:
To mark the recent deposit of a significant audio visual archive from the Newham Monitoring Project (NMP), this will be the inaugural event in a series of monthly screenings linked to the ongoing digitisation and resuscitation of rarely seen film footage held by, or passing through, MDR. The evening will feature NMP’s short film ‘The Dividing Line’ which was first broadcast on BBC2 in January 1986. The film publicises “this country’s intrinsic racism” and vindicates “our right to self defence” and NMP’s long-term work in campaigning against racism, fascism and police harassment. Alongside this we will show a selection of footage from NMP archive spanning from 1985-2002.
The screening coincides with a residency from founder members of Pirate Cinema, who will provide an opportunity to discuss resisting copyright and their archival projects (pad.ma) and how this could be a means of viewing and distributing archival material in new ways. In the spirit of Pirate Cinema we invite those attending to contribute and share material for further distribution.
