Schooling & Culture journal was a collaboration between a group of radical left educationalists and young working class school students that began in the late 70s. The journal was based at the Cockpit Arts Workshop, which was maintained by the Inner London Education Authority and the founding editorial group were Adrian Chappell, Andrew Dewdney, Martin Lister, Erica Matlow and Alan Tompkins. The journal was one of the projects of the Department of Cultural Studies, which also ran, schools projects, a public gallery and touring exhibition scheme. Andrew Dewdney has kindly deposited a set of journals and other associated material at MayDay Rooms and Russell Newell, one of the original participating students, is coordinating the re-activation of the journal by revisiting some of the themes Schooling & Culture covered as well as working towards producing a new issue.
