Archives of Lotta Feminista

June 1, 2022 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm BST

Join Pagliacci Rossi for a presentation and workshop on the recently digitalised archives of Lotta Feminista and Mariarosa Dalla Costa!

This workshop examines the texts and context of Lotta Femminista, the primary feminist movement to emerge within the workerist culture of the Triveneto region of northeastern Italy in the 1970s and a basis for the international Wages for Housework movement. The event draws from the newly digitized archives of the group’s co-founder Mariarosa Dalla Costa and will introduce participants to some of the riches of this collection. Although protagonists of the movement (Silvia Federici, Leopoldina Fortunati, Mariarosa Dalla Casa, Selma James et. al.) have garnered latter day recognition and been central to contemporary discussions of reproductive labor, many of the group’s foundational texts have remained untranslated. Lotta Femminista’s complex relation to operaismo, autonomia, the emergent global feminist movement and broader context of post-war anti-colonial thought and movements remains under-examined.

Participants will be sent a dossier of new translations of movement documents in the weeks prior to the event and the original Italian texts will be made available through the MayDay Rooms online archive. Presented by Pagliacci Rossi, the event is organized with Arlen Austin (bio below) and will include special guest presentations (tba) by contemporary Italian feminists. Materials from the May Day Rooms’ Archive, relating the Lotta Feminista and the broader workerist movement, will also be available for particpants to read and look through!
