Channels is an all-female scripting group exploring our feminisms through improvised character construction, script and gestural choreographed movement. It is a process of experimentation that we perform collaboratively and without professional expertise. We aim to produce public performances of these experiments whilst developing a process for collective working. We depend on May Day for the use of their space and essential resources including reliable wi fi, projection equipment, speakers and an extensive archive of radical feminist material.
On Saturday 8th October we will conduct a closed workshop on gender violence. We will watch some films by artists about gender violence (Martha Rosler), and also look at slapstick comedy of early cinema (Chaplin, Keaton, Laurel and Hardy, Marx Bros) and we will experiment with a series of choreographed gestures based on these visuals, plus a set of instructions called Elements of Performance Art made by The Theatre of Mistake in 1974.
