Fairy Tales – Under the Moon

February 24, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm GMT

Once upon a time in a kingdom far far away…
Join us on Wednesday 24th February for a session on FAIRY TALES.
We’ll be at May Day Rooms from 6pm and plan to read some tales aloud from Jack Zipes collection Fairy Tales and Fables from Weimar Days and to watch some short silhouette animations by Lotte Reiniger made in the 1920s. If you have any other tales you’d like to read together feel free to bring them along.
At 7pm we will screen Powell and Pressburger’s Tales of Hoffman – automatons, lost reflections and ghostly songs – the film is a glorious Technicolor rendition of Jacques Offenbach’s opera based on three of Hoffman’s stories.
‘Toward dusk may be the best time to tell stories. Indifferent proximity disappears; a remote realm that appears to be better and closer approaches. Once upon a time: this means in fairy-tale manner not only the past but a more colourful or easier somewhere else.’ – Ernst Bloch
Hope to see you there and as always please write with suggestions for future themes!
