Film Screening- Talking History: C.L.R. James and E.P. Thompson

December 7, 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm GMT

A Screening by the June Givanni Pan African Cinema Archive (JGPACA) and the Mayday Rooms Archive.
In 1983 H. O. Nazareth directed the film ‘Talking History’, which brought together two Marxist historians and theoreticians: C. L. R. James and E. P. Thompson. Their conversation, interspersed with music by Spartacus R, ranged around international affairs and atomic warfare at the end of the Cold War, new freedom movements and revolutions in Eastern Europe and the Middle East, hopes for social transformation and mass movements in the global South, and popular politics in the United Kingdom.
We will be screening the documentary from the original 16mm film. The screening will be introduced by the director and will be followed by a panel discussion.
To book a free ticket please go to https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/talking-history-c-l-r-james-and-e-p-thompson-tickets-29696352590.
The June Givanni Pan African Cinema Archive (JGPACA) is currently resident at the MayDay Rooms. This screening will mark the first in a series of collaborative events and screenings between the JGPACA and the MayDay Rooms Archive.
