Glasgow Housing Struggle Archive w. MayDay Rooms
November 24, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm GMT
Join us for a workshop where we will be sharing collective knowledge and practical skills around archiving historical and contemporary housing movements. The workshop will be held by Glasgow Housing Struggle Archive, a new project from Living Rent members aimed at uncovering the city’s hidden history of squatting, rent strikes, and council tenant organisation, and connecting it with today’s ongoing fights, in collaboration with MayDay Rooms.
We will be looking at different ways of building archives that can be vital resources for contemporary movements rather than just historical repositories. A hands-on online workshop that should be useful for any tenant or community organiser interested in building local collections! During the session we will be finding materials, scanning, sharing, and preserving documents; discovering ways of hosting material online and using Leftove.rs; and exploring political questions on how to most usefully organise collections and take the archive into everyday organising. If possible please bring along material from campaigns that you might want to archive.
Register in advance for this event here. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. It would be great if all participants could complete this enrolment form in addition to the zoom registration as this helps keep the Workers’ Educational Association’s events free.
The GHSA is supported by the Workers’ Educational Association (Scotland) and the Lipman-Miliband Trust.
