FIGHT BACK AGAINST WORKPLACE ABUSE AT HSBC BANK, CANARY WHARF
SUPPORT THE STRIKE & PROTEST: MAY 1st 2019 — 8 CANADA SQUARE, E14 5HQ
For many months now, our members employed by ISS at HSBC have been in dispute with their employer over the introduction of a large number of so-called housekeepers to the cleaning team.
In theory, these housekeepers should be cleaning alongside their colleagues on the team. In reality, they act more like spies, following the cleaners around looking for problems with their work, and reporting back to the team supervisors.
Housekeepers aren’t the only problem at HSBC. There’s also the fact that ISS won’t offer the cleaners a contractual sick pay scheme. Plus ISS’s refusal to recognize CAIWU, despite the fact that virtually all the day shif t cleaners at HSBC are members of our union.
The cleaners have had enough. They’ve started an official dispute with ISS, and are balloting about industrial action.
The strike is planned for May 1st. We’re organizing a rally outside the bank and we’d love you to be there. CAIWU will be hiring an open-topped bus for the day, for a tour of the places where our members spend their days — and often their nights — working for some of London’s most notorious employers. Please join us on the bus if you can — or come along to Canada Square in Canary Wharf to join the rally. Let us know if you’d like to address the crowd, and we’ll try and add you to the programme for the day.
This will be a big action aimed at the perpetrators of a big mistake at a big bank. How else would you rather spend Mayday than protesting on the streets with us?
We hope to see you there.
