Zero Boats: An Update On Planetary Class Struggle
December 21, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm GMT
The situation for working-class Africans and Asians attempting to enter Europe has completely changed over the past 6 months. There are now almost no boats arriving from Libya. Several hundred thousand people are stuck in camps and prisons around Tripoli. Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of men, women and children who have arrived since the fall of Gaddafi now find themselves stalled in the Italian hostel system, struggling individually and collectively every day for basic material conditions, access to the welfare state and to put down the roots of a new generation of Africans and Asians in Europe. Richard B is a solidarity activist in Palermo who helps run a migrant drop-in centre at the bar and cultural association “Porco Rosso” (Red Pig). He will discuss the problems faced by migrants in the city and the tactics used to overcome the obstacles they face. He writes the “Zero Boats” blog for Plan C. https://www.weareplanc.org
