The 2015 W.A.G.E. Summit: Individual Certification (closed event)
November 1, 2015 @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm GMT
On November 1-2, W.A.G.E. convenes at MayDay Rooms to establish the policy for Individual W.A.G.E. Certification. Under this program, individuals will be “certified” on the basis of their commitment to work only with organizations that pay fees according to standards established by W.A.G.E. through its certification program.
Initiated and operated by W.A.G.E. and launched in October 2014, W.A.G.E. Certification publicly recognizes those nonprofit arts organizations voluntarily paying artist fees. It is the first model of its kind and the first in the U.S. to establish a sector-wide minimum standard for compensation, as well as a clear set of guidelines and standards for the conditions under which artistic labor is contracted. Individual Certification extends directly out of this program but is also intended to encircle and reinforce it: as both a matrix of individual boycotts and a collective withholding of labor, a base of W.A.G.E. Certified contract workers can apply pressure to those as yet uncertified organizations to get W.A.G.E. Certified—shifting the conditions under which labor is contracted within the nonprofit arts sector, and in the field more broadly.
The summit is not a public event, but its outcome will be made transparent and available at www.wageforwork.com.
