Archive of the Month: London Housing Struggles Archive

With the occasion of the event we are organising in collaboration with the Glasgow Housing Struggle Archive, we are bringing you back to this collection we built in 2017 recording the so important housing struggles in London. The London Housing Struggles Archive is a collection of documents related to housing campaigns, squatting and rent strikes. The archive is divided into three collections: the first documents housing struggles ranging from 1975 to 1991 including campaigns against the sell off of estates in the 1980s. The second collection gathers together a wide range of hard and digital materials produced by recent 2010 and reaching the present, including posters, flyers and pamphlets as well as archived websites and an extensive range of digital images and propaganda. Also included is a small set of materials on rent strikes, mainly deposited by UCL Cut The Rent. A third collection addresses the history and politics of squatting in London, from the late 1968s to the early 2010s. This squatting collection is a mixture of our existing archive alongside an archived that has been built as the outcome of a residency conducted by Chris Jones on the history politics of organised squatting in London.

You can see the full collection here.
