Prisoner Solidarity Network Screening: L is for Long Lartin

May 5, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm BST

Join Prisoner Solidarity Network & MayDay Rooms for the screening of ‘Voices from Long Lartin’ w/ Q&A with filmmaker John Bowden & Andy.

Voices from Long Lartin (40min, 1989)

This program documents a prisoner’s forum inside HMP Long Lartin organised by PSN member John Bowden in 1989. The unique event was a reflection of the shift in the balance of power between prisoners and guards during the 1970s and 80s and the positive effect of the collective empowerment of prisoners on the regime of the jail. It was the collective self-organisation of prisoners that was responsible for the unique forum and evidence that the collective empowerment of prisoners results in their positive change and liberation.

There will be a Q&A/discussion with PSN member John Bowden and Andy, who is the jail house lawyer/chair of the prisoners’ forum in ‘Voices from Long Lartin’.

MayDay Rooms will be sharing materials & ephemera from the archive used in Abolition A-Z
